Number of Chemistry Community Posts

Postby Matt Sanruk 2H » Mon Jan 20, 2020 7:42 pm

Last quarter when I took chem 14A it was a lot easier to keep track of, but since I have above 50 posts already it is difficult to count how many I have for each week! Is there a way to differentiate between quarters or will it be if I get 100 overall by the end?

If you go to "Your Posts" you can view the dates and I just count starting at January 2020 to see how many posts I have for the quarter

look at the posts you made and count the posts made in January 2020, which are your post so far this quarter

So the only way is to count? There is no post reset count option or anything?

I think the easiest way is to check how many you had in quarter 1 and then subtract that from what you have now.

So will we get a 50/50 if we have a 100 posts in total or just 50 this quarter.

I think they are independent of each other, but I also do not know how the algorithm works so...

Sometimes I post multiple times on the same thread - is this counted as separate posts or as just one?

I think it would count as multiple posts, but for a definite answer I'd ask your TA since they give the credit at the end of the quarter.

I just subtract from the number of posts from last quarter. I had exactly 50 last quarter so it is easy to figure out.

Personally, you can go under "your posts" tab and check the date on which you posted. This is the most definite way to check if you have completed the required number of posts in the right time period.

When are the posts due every week? Is it Friday or Sunday?

Yeah! under quick links click your posts and it should give you a number on the right side at the top of the list.

I'm just sad since it does not give the post number when it gives the date ;(

I have been having the same issue. However, counting is not too bad as long as you distinguish where you ended your posts last quarter. Counting can be tedious so I also keep track in my notes on my phone and update it every time I post on here. I recommend this if you don't want to count every time.

5 posts are due every Sunday and the easiest way to keep track of the number of posts is to subtract your total from 50!

It's pretty difficult since I got more than 50 posts last quarter too.

In "Your Post", you can track the number of posts and the time of posting as well.

I believe if you get 100 by the end that should work. I am having the same problem too.

Personally what I do is I look "Your posts" tab at the date starting from January and go through each of my posts to make sure I'm accounting for times I've posted twice and I keep a paper in my notebook with each post title and how many I have in each one to make sure I'm counting accurately. I've done that since the beginning of the quarter and it has saved me so much time and confusion. Hope that helps!

I was curious about this too and whether or not we simply needed 100 posts by the end of this quarter. I believe I had more than 50 last quarter but was not sure if I would still need 50 more posts this quarter or just the remainder to 100.

The multiple posts are the ones that are really getting me, but at least its easier since one page of posts has 25 posts listed.

if you post multiple times on the same thread it will still count as separate posts.

I would definitely assume that it resets this quarter so that you would have to do full 50 points this quarter itself to get the points.

There were some weeks that I posted more than five questions for each week, would these "extras" count towards my total 50 for the quarter? Or would they just be not counted?

I believe the count starts from your first post in January 2020, and for those that took 14A with Lavelle last quarter, you should have a total of 100 posts by the end I believe.

Did anyone else take chem 14A last year. I took it Fall 18 and we only needed 30 chemistry community posts back then. Does that mean I only need to post a total of 80 times?

So we only have to have 50 posts total for the quarter to get full credit, not necessarily 5 per week?

Also, if you don’t remember how many posts you did last class, you can look through the dates of your post, and try and find the first post of the quarter and then start the count from that post.

I think the easiest way is to count one time how many posts you have from fall quarter, and then you can subtract that whenever you look at the number of posts you have total

I have this problem where the counter next to my username always displays one more post than I have actually done - according to my stats when I check them on my profile overview and based on my point count for when grades are assigned. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I am also doing it that way! If you had 50 posts total last quarter you could always just subtract 50 from your current total posts.

For 14A we only needed 50 by the end of the quarter, so I think if you have 100 by the end of the quarter it should be fine. I don't think the TA's keep track of how many posts we started with.

I just keep counting from the number I was at last quarter. So for week 2, I make sure to have 60 posts by Sunday night.

Ah I was hoping that there would be a better way to keep track than doing it manually, but it seems like everyone's been doing it manually. :(
