## State Function

$\Delta G^{\circ}= \Delta H^{\circ} - T \Delta S^{\circ}$

$\Delta G^{\circ}= -RT\ln K$

$\Delta G^{\circ}= \sum \Delta G_{f}^{\circ}(products) - \sum \Delta G_{f}^{\circ}(reactants)$

### State Function

Are we able to use Hess's law to help determine Gibbs free energy because they are both state functions or is there a separate reason?

Gibbs free energy is a state function since it's defined in terms of thermodynamic properties that are also state functions. Hess's law can be used for both changes in entropy and in Gibbs free energy.

Yeah pretty much, since ΔG= ΔH - TΔS and all those components are state functions, you could assume ΔG is also a state function.

You can use it. You just have to make sure you arrange the equations to be equal to delta G.

Hess's law can be applied to Gibb's equation because Gibb's is a state function.

Because they are state functions, they are able to be added or subtracted together since the pathway is not dependent on them. In this, Gibbs is able to be added or subtracted when given specific equations of formation or any other values. This is why calculating the enthalpy through the Hess' Law is similar to calculating Gibb's.

Since it is a state function it is not path dependent. This is why we can use Hess's law, because the pathway doesn't matter just the end results.
