Re: Open Systems
Since open systems are permeable to energy and matter, im pretty sure all thermodynamic equations can be applied

Re: Open Systems
I agree. Open systems are able to exchange matter and energy with its surroundings. I think the important thing is looking at whether the pressure is constant or not or if the volume is constant or not in deciding what equations to use.

Re: Open Systems
How does one determine whether a system is open and what does that say about pressure and volume?

Re: Open Systems
Any equations, depending on whether or not the work/effect on the system is adiabetic/isothermal/isochoric, etc...

Re: Open Systems
I think most equations can. Most of the time though an open system is to be considered at constant pressure though.

Re: Open Systems
You can use almost any equation with an open system you just have to be cognoscente of how the open system affects your variables.

Re: Open Systems
since open systems allow for the exchange of matter and energy, I think that any thermodynamic equation can be used so long as you pay attention to if it has constant pressure and volume

Re: Open Systems
I believe almost all equations work, but you would have to be aware of how an open system affects the variables.
