I believe the porous disc is just another way to keep the charges of both cells to be neutral.

Yes, a porous disk does the same function as the salt bridge: keep the current flowing by preventing charge imbalance. Furthermore, a porous disk does not have the anode and cathode in separate solutions; the ions are in the same solution and the ions are intermixed to prevent the charge imbalance. A salt bridge has separation of the two parts of the cell. Hope this helps!!

Yes, they essentially have the same roles of keeping the cells neutral but the only difference is that with a porous disk, you don't place the anode and cathode in different beakers but rather together in the same solution.

A porous disc doesn’t the same thing as a salt bridge. They both ensure electron flow throughout the system.
