The problems asks to balance the redox reaction in acidic solution of :
Cl2 (g) —> HClO (aq) + Cl2 (g)

I understand why they broke the two reactions into
Cl2 —> HClO
and
Cl2 —> 2Cl-

But, I’m wondering why they were able to write the product in the second half reaction as chlorine ions (2Cl-) rather than how it was written in the first reaction as Cl2

Some people have said that it's a typo, so it should say 2Cl-(aq) as the product rather than Cl2(g)

I can confirm that it's a typo, it really should be 2Cl-(aq) instead of Cl2(g)

thanks i was absolutely losing my mind at how to do this problem... can't believe there was a typo
