6K.3 part d

This question asks us to balance the redox reaction of chlorine in water, with the reaction being Cl2 gas going to HClO and Cl2 gas again. How would you go about starting this? I'm having a hard time identifying the oxidation half-reaction and the reduction half-reaction.

My TA said to break it into two equations like the one reactant goes to each product in separate equations, then calculate charge and determine oxidizing/reducing agent from there. I hope this helps :)

I believe that the product is supposed to be Cl- not Cl2.

I also had trouble with this problem, so I checked the solution manual and it seems the product should be Cl- instead of Cl2. Hope this helps!
