Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
So I understand that both the Porous Disk and Salt Bridge are used to transfer ions but is one more efficient than the other? If so, why? Just curious

Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
Since they both serve the same purpose, I don't think either one is more efficient than the other.

Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
They both serve the same purpose and thus have essentially no reasonable difference in this class.

Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
In lecture didn't Lavelle say that the voltage is typically lower with the porous disk in a concentration cell?

Don't the do the same thing, but in different situations so how could you compare their efficiency. Porous disks are for 2 of the same solutions that are different molarity or am I misunderstanding what they are?

Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
I think they both serve the same purpose of reducing charge buildup so one is not much more effective than the other.

They have the same function, so one will not be more efficient than the other.

Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
Since they ultimately have the same function, I believe that one isn't more efficient than the other

Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
I don't believe there is a difference in efficiency. They serve the same purpose in balancing charges and the distribution of ions.

Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
I agree with the comments above. There's not a difference in efficiency between the two based on what I know of.
Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
I think especially for the purpose for this class, there is no difference in efficiency between the two.
Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
For this class though, we mostly use the salt bridge. Are there any homework problems in which we use the porous disk ?

Re: Porous Disk and Salt Bridge
If there is no difference in efficiency then when would you use a porous disk instead of a salt bridge?
