Re: H+ or H2O
You would first have to add H20 in order to balance the O's and then add H+ to balance the H's.

Re: H+ or H2O
One of the rules our TA taught us regarding this was that it's based off what type of reaction you have.
If it's acidic, balance O with water, then balance H with protons
If it's basic, balance O with OH-, and H with H20

Re: H+ or H2O
You first have to add H20 to balance the O’s. Then, in an acidic solution you just add H+ to balance the H’s . Whereas in a basic solution you either add H+ and balance it with OH- to create H20 or you add an H20 for every 2 OH- molecules on the other side in order to balance the hydrogens.

Re: H+ or H2O
H2O is used to intially balance the oxygens, then H+ to balance the hydrogens, and then e- to balance the charge.

Re: H+ or H2O
You can use both H+ and H2O to balance redox reactions when they occur in acidic solutions.

this is a way simpler way to think about it than the worksheet, thanks!

Re: H+ or H2O
You balance the oxygen first by adding water and then you balance H+ if it is an acidic environment.
