the deltaG for a cell is the amount of useful work obtainable from a system at constant T and P.

To add on, the amount of work a system can do is determined by the total change in free energy. This relates to cell potential because in an electrochemical cell, the system converts chemical energy to electrical energy based on the system's cell potential. The about of work and free energy change depends on the cell potential and the number of electrons transferred.

dG = max work possible ! This is because ideally, all energy released in the reaction would be used to do work. This is not realistic in nature however, because energy dissipates, etc.
