slow step

Under what conditions do we only consider use the rate law of slow step as the overall rate laws? Is that always the case?

I think the book said something like this:
- if the slow step is the second step, the rate law for that step determines the rate law for the reaction
- if the slow step is the first step, the rate law for that step must match the rate law for the reaction

If it is a multi-step reaction and one is significantly slower than the other, then we will always use that step to determine the rate-law.

I believe that the slowest step of a multi-step reaction is the rate-determining step.

For all conditions, the slowest step determines the rate of the reaction, because the reaction can only proceed as fast as the slowest process.

The slow step would be the rate determining step, so that would be used in finding the rate-law.

Its the rate determining step unless it does not match up with the actual rate law of the reaction.
