How does adding water to a concentration cell affect cell potential? (in the two occasions: anode or cathode)

It will decrease the concentration. To find out how this affects cell potential, you can plug numbers into E=-RT/nF lnQ with alterations to Q. For instance, if the cathode's concentration decreases, cell potential will increase.

Adding water will decrease the concentration of everyone else, changing the value of Q which changes cell potential.

Adding water will dilute a solution, and depending on whether it is added to the anode or cathode, delta G, or work, may also go up or down.

How adding water affects cell potential is dependent on which solution it is diluting. If it is diluting the anode solution, then the overall Q is decreased, decreasing the lnQ expression and therefore increasing cell potential since the [-RTlnQ] term is smaller.

It will dilute the solution, resulting in a change in a Q value due to changes in concentration.

water dilutes the solution.Whether it increases or decreases cell potential depends on the problem
