Catalyst

Postby haileyramsey-1c » Mon Mar 09, 2020 2:33 pm

Can a zero order reaction have a catalyst or be influenced by one? If so would k just depend on the amount of catalyst?

A zero order reaction's rate is independent of the concentration of R, often when the catalyst or enzyme is saturated and increasing the concentration of R does not increase the overall rate. Since the rate is dependent solely on k, the presence of a catalyst would increase the reaction rate since it lowers the activation energy of a reaction. I am not sure whether the amount of catalyst matters.

Increasing the concentration of the reactant in a zero-order reaction will not speed up the rate of the reaction.
Zero-order reactions are typically found when a catalyst, is saturated by the reactants.

saturating the amount of substrate with catalyst does not speed up the rate of the reaction

No a zero order reaction won't be influenced by a catalyst
