### Stoichiometric coefficients vs order

When do the orders of the rate equal the stoichiometric coefficients of a reaction, and when do they not? Thank you in advance.

I believe that the stoichiometric coefficients can be used when we are dealing with reaction mechanisms but can not be used for overall order reactions and finding the overall reaction rate. For overall reaction rates, experimental evidence needs to be used.

The overall reaction order will the same as the stoichiometric coefficient of the rate determining step. Otherwise, each mechanism rate will have its respective order from that step's stoichiometric coefficients.

The stoichiometric coefficients are equal to the order for the reactants of the rater determining step or the slow step.

They are the same as order for individual steps of a reaction, but not the overall reaction.
