Delta S total is always 0 or greater, as it accounts for the entropy of everything and entropy always increases. It is made up of Ssys and Ssur, depending on what you define as your system. The 2 added together equal S total.

Delta S total is the entropy of both the system and its surroundings, while delta S surroundings is just the entropy of the surroundings and not the system.

Delta S total is equal to delta s or the surroundings plus delta s of the system. When the reaction is reversible then delta s total is equal to zero because the work done on the surroundings and on the system is equal
