rate in an uncontrolled solution

What would one need to consider differently when determining the rate of a reaction in an uncontrolled system like a pond, in which there may be many, many different types of molecules affecting the species in your reaction? How would that be handled experimentally?

perhaps, if you are finding the rate of a reaction and there are many different molecules interacting, you may need to rely on pseudo ordered rates to solve this, because pseudo ordered rates are a way in which we can find the rate of reaction when one or two reactants are in excess while the other is not. Pseudo ordered rate give us a "new" or pseudo rate that enables us to find the rate of reaction.

You could probably recreate a similar solution with controlled reactants to compare to the pond or other uncontrolled solution.
