Take Home Final
Hi all,
I hope you are all doing well and staying safe! I am currently adjusting my study strategies for the new final situation. I have never had a "take home" final before, so I was wondering if anyone has experience with these? Will there be a strict time limit, or do these types of finals typically have a large window where they can be submitted? Will the final be taken and submitted online or will it be a worksheet that we fill out, scan, and submit? I need to know how long we have to take the final and where it will be taken in case I need printer/scanner access to submit it. Please let me know if any of you have experience with this type of final or insight into how it might be taken! Thank you so much and good luck :)

Re: Take Home Final
I would be prepared to have to print out a worksheet from online and then scan in your answers and submit it online. There will most likely be a time frame of probably around 3-4 hours.

Re: Take Home Final
For my math take home final, he is going to upload a pdf of the exam, have us print it out and complete it and then upload it to ccle. He's giving us 24 hours to do so but Idk if we'll get that much time for Chem.

I'm also not sure if it's going to take place at the same time Sunday for 3 hours like an online quiz or something or a bigger window to turn in?
Re: Take Home Final
I heard some people's take-home final is taken over a large window of time to accommodate for everyone but the tests are still designed to take the same amount of time. The only difference is to scan and upload our answers I guess. I hope we get an update soon

Re: Take Home Final
At this moment, there has been no update on whether the final will be during a typical 3-hour final period or if we will be given longer.

Re: Take Home Final
I am guessing it will be more than the three hour period because we will most likely need to print out a sheet and upload it and everything.

I feel like we would have to print the final out and scan it, I'm waiting for an update as well!
Re: Take Home Final
For my math class final that is now take home, he said he will be doing a final through Gradescope wherr you submit scans of your paper work for the final and gave us a 24 hour window to do it. I hope Lavelle does the same

He mentioned giving us 3-4 hours for the final because it will be "short and easy" but Lavelle will update us with more information tomorrow.

Re: Take Home Final
it will be 3-4 hours with only 6 questions, so it is plenty of time to print, write on, scan, and upload the final.

Re: Take Home Final
Do you guys think it will be all MC questions with a purely correct/incorrect grading style?

Re: Take Home Final
It seems like this is just an online test with no scanning, so It seems like it would be hard to show your work and have that be graded. But maybe you will have to put in answers for intermediate steps and that could be counted as work? Im not sure, but Lavelle said the test would be straightforward and fair. So, good luck!

I'd imagine there would be some multiple choice and some fill-in-the-blank, but I think since we probably can't show work it would be a full correct/incorrect grading scale. Also, since Prof Lavelle also mentioned it would have 6 questions previously, I think that we have 6 questions with 5 subquestions each, so a lot of the questions will be related to an overarching question.
