Grading Scale

Postby Nohemi Garcia 1L » Sat Mar 14, 2020 4:14 pm

Does anyone know if he's using the same grading scale as last quarter for 14A?

I think he'll use a similar grading scale. The syllabus just says that the cut off for a C- is 50% and nothing in the emails has indicated that the grading scale would be changed.

Everything is worth 50 points except the midterm which is worth 120 points and the final which is worth 180 points so the entire course is 500 points

It seems the same as 14A, and I think the only thing that might change is how he adjusts the grades based on the class's performance this quarter.

So do we know how he is curving the class?

He doesn't always necessarily have to curve the class so I think if everyone does well there will be no curve.

I think he curves up depending on the class average at the end of the quarter

I think its really similar to Chem 14A, 50% is a C-, and he will scale depending on class performance, but it will not hurt you.

He is using the same grading system, and I think it is safe to assume that he will be using the same scale also, since the midterm scores, the only average he revealed, were actually higher than those for 14A, and 14A didn't have a curve at all (might have been a point or so tho).

I think he's still following the 500 point grading scheme with the final being 180 points.

As others have mentioned, the pass cutoff is the same and grades will be assigned based on performance. The average midterm grade was quite similar to last quarter's, so I'd assume it will be pretty similar despite the very different final we will take

From my understanding he will only curve up if the class average is significantly lower than expected. Otherwise It's as simple as adding all your points together and dividing by 500.

I think it’ll be pretty much the same. 250 points minimum to pass

Yes I believe it should be the same where to get a C- you need 50% to pass.
