Writing Formulas
For the future would it be good to know how to write the formula of a molecule when just given the name such as, disulfur dichloride or sulfuric acid?

Re: Writing Formulas
I remember my TA saying that we won't be tested on how to write formulas in chem 14A, but we will be required to know how to in chem 14B. So if you're planning on taking 14B, I would definitely say that it would be helpful. I believe fundamentals section D goes over nomenclature.

Re: Writing Formulas
My TA also said that equations will be provided for us for this class. For future use it would probably be helpful to start remembering them.

Re: Writing Formulas
For things like sulfuric acid, I believe that it is memorization. However, things like disulfur dichloride, there are a set of rules to know in order to figure out the formula. I hope this helps.

Re: Writing Formulas
Yes, the equations will be given to us we will just have to know how to implement it into the question.

Re: Writing Formulas
Equations should generally be given to us, but for our future in chemistry, it is best to start becoming familiar as well as memorizing them.

Equations are given I believe but it can't hurt to familiarize yourself with it!

Re: Writing Formulas
I dot think it hurts to memorize some, but from what I know formulas will be given to us!

Re: Writing Formulas
So does this mean for each exam we will be able to access a reference sheet with important formulas, or will the formulas be included in the problem?

Re: Writing Formulas
Usually the problem will list the formula, at least from what I have seen so far and what I encountered in high school chem. I believe we would be notified if we had to memorize nomenclature for the exam, so my assumption is that the problems will give the formula and we will not have to figure it out ourselves. However, as everyone mentioned, it is a good idea to learn it for future courses.
