protons and electrons

do protons and electrons have the same mass? Also, do neutrons have a different mass than protons and electrons?

Hi! Protons and neutrons almost have the same mass, and they are both much more massive than electrons (about 2,000 times more).

They have different masses!
The mass of an electron is 9.109 x 10^-31 kg. The mass of a proton is 1.672 x 10^-27 kg. The mass of a neutron is 1.674 x 10^-27 kg.

Protons have way more mass than electrons. Neutrons and protons have similar mass. In fact, an atom's atomic mass is mostly determined by its amount of protons and neutrons.

Hi! Protons and neutrons have very similar masses, with protons and neutrons having a mass of around 1 amu. Electrons, however, are so small that their mass is infinitesimal in comparison and therefore they are not included in the calculations for molecular mass. Due to this, molecular mass is determined by protons and neutrons and does not include electrons.

Hi,

The mass of a proton and a neutron are approximately the same, which is about 1 amu (atomic mass unit). The mass of an electron is far less than that of a proton or neutron, which is about 0.0005 amu (atomic mass unit). This is why when we do stoichiometry problems, we approximate the molar mass of let's say Na(s) and Na+(aq) to be the same, while different isotopes as carbon-12 and carbon-13 are different (about 12 amu and 13 amu respectively) due to how neutrons are more significant in mass.

Hope this helps! :)

Hey! So, like people have said earlier. Protons and neutrons are pretty similar when it comes to mass, but electrons are much smaller. The reason why everyone spends a lot of time studying electrons though is because they have a huge amount of energy and affect how atoms interact with one another. Protons are more important in terms of giving atoms their identity, while neutrons' lack of charge gives atoms a little bit of stability.

Protons and neutrons have very similar mass. In fact, their masses together form the atomic mass of that element. Electrons however are so much smaller than them that the mass of electrons is neglected when dealing with atomic mass.

Protons and neutrons are similar in mass, while electrons are much smaller than both. The mass of an atom is almost entirely dependent on the nucleus, as the electrons weigh so little in comparison.

Protons and neutrons both have a mass of around 1 amu and electrons have a negligible mass. Knowing these values can be incredibly helpful when determining what isotope an atom is when given the total weight of the atom.

Protons and neutrons both have a mass that approximates to 1 amu, while electrons are negligible in mass meaning that they are about 0 amu.

Protons and neutrons are very similar in mass (neutrons are slightly heavier than protons) and are actually what give an atom its atomic mass. Electrons are substantially lighter than both neutrons and protons.

Hi there!

Protons and neutrons are much similar in mass, and they're present in the nucleus. Protons have a positive charge, and neutrons have a neutral charge (they act as the "glue" between protons in order to keep the electromagnetic positive charges from repelling each other). Electrons (abbreviated e-) are found in the electron cloud, which is a sort of exterior spherical area where electrons orbit the nucleus. Electrons have a mass much smaller than protons, (9.10938356 × 10-31 kilograms), compared to a proton's 1.6726219 × 10-27 kilograms.

Hope this helps!
Andre

Protons and neutrons have about the same mass while electrons have a smaller mass. The atomic mass of an element is dependent on the weight of the protons and neutrons because electrons have little to no effect on the mass.

Neutrons and protons have similar mass, while the electrons are much smaller than those particles. The nuclues is made up of protons and neutrons, which makes up of the most part of the nuclear atom. Therefore, electrons are just small particles floating around the nucleus.

Protons and neutrons are similar in mass, and are both significantly heavier in comparison to the mass of an electron. The mass of an electron is 9.109 x 10^-31 kg. the mass of a proton is 1.672 x 10^-27 kg, and the mass of a neutron is 1.674 x 10^-27 kg. The masses of the proton and neutron are around 10,000 times heavier than the mass of an electron .

when determining mass protons and neutrons are almost the same and the weight of electrons is basically negligible

I agree with the previous replies on this post. Protons and neutrons have approximately the same mass, 1.67 x 10-24 grams (1 amu), while electrons are much smaller.

Proton and neutron have similar masses while electrons are much small. A vivid way of memorizing this that only electrons pass from one to the other. Never heard of protons or neutrons jumping around. :D

Similar to what the previous responses have said, it is correct that protons have a greater mass than electrons. The mass of an electron is roughly (1/1836) compared to a proton. On the other hand, protons and neurons typically have very similar if not equal masses.

electrons have negligible mass and are mostly there for the charge/energy, which is when we use them for calculations! Protons and neutrons are around the same mass and are larger than electrons

An electron has a much smaller mass than protons and neutrons which are about the same. An electron's mass is basically negligible while the other 2 have masses of around 1 amu/dalton.

Protons and neutrons have around the same mass of about 1.67 x 10^-24 grams while electrons are only 9.109 x 10^-28g. Protons and neutrons determine the mass of an atom, while electrons move from atom to atom without a significant change in mass

Protons and neutrons don't have the exact same masses but they do have very similar masses. The mass of atoms are formed from the masses of protons and neutrons. However, electrons do not make up atomic masses because electrons are much smaller than protons and neutrons.

Protons and neutrons have a similar mass, which is about 1 amu, while electrons have what is considered negligible mass.

Protons and neurons have similar masses, whereas electrons are much smaller and therefore weigh less. Protons and neurons reside in the center of the atom and electrons are floating/orbiting around it.

Hi! Protons and electrons do not have the same mass. Protons are thought to have a mass of 1 atomic mass unit (amu)while electrons are thought to have a mass that is very close to 0 amu. Similar to protons, neutrons are thought to have the mass of 1 amu. The masses of protons and neutrons are approximately thought to be the same.

Protons and electrons do not have the same mass. Both protons and neutrons have a much larger mass than electrons. However, protons and neutrons have essentially the same mass. Neutrons are only a little larger in mass than protons, but nothing too major.

I think a few people have answered this, but protons and neutrons have similar masses. This is why the atomic mass is determined by the amount of both protons and neutrons. However, electrons are drastically smaller in comparison to protons and neutrons. They are so small that their weight is not included in the atomic mass.

Protons and electrons differ massively in size, whereas protons and neutrons have almost the same mass. Electrons weigh an extremely tiny amount compared to protons.

To keep it short, protons and neutrons have essentially the same masses, while electrons have a much smaller mass compared to them.
