Chem 14BL

Postby Jaclyn Dang 3B » Mon Oct 26, 2020 7:29 pm

Hi all, I know course enrollments are coming up, so I wanted to see if anybody knows how the structure of chem 14BL has changed due to remote learning?

I also have a question about 14BL:
Does anyone know if we should take it with 14B? Or can we take it the quarter after we take 14B?

Thank you!

I've heard from people that already taken the class and older posts on Chem Community that it's probably better to take Chem 14BL after you take 14B.
This is because 14B covers the content in 14BL and it makes sense to have a background in the content covered before taking 14BL.

You could still take 14B and 14BL at the same time since they are structured in a way that the content from 14B will align with what you cover in 14BL.
It just depends on whether you feel prepared to take 14BL and your current class schedule.

I also have a question about Chem 14BL. Is it better to take it during the summer quarter or during the school year? The summer quarter finishes the course in 6 weeks, so will it be manageable?

Going off what John said above, my friends who have taken BL highly suggest taking it along side C, or after you have taken B. It is manageable to take it with B, but I just heard that it is easier to get a grasp of what is going on in the lab because you already learned the material. Also, I believe labs will still be online the next quarter. And from what other people have said, it is much more doable online since you do not have to attend 3 hours of lab as if it was in person, because now you are using data that is posted from CCLE, and watching videos.

Hope this gives you a little more insight!

Not to sound like a broken stereo, but yes I've heard its better to take 14BL after 14B. I don't know if it really matters what major you are, but I spoke with my Departmental advisor (for psychology for example) and I was told to wait till after I take 14B.
