Importance of anions and cations

Do we need to know the difference between anions and cations? How important it is to know this. ODes anyone remembers which lecture videos the professor explains these concepts.

Well, they shouldn't be too hard to remember. Anions are negatively charged (meaning they have more electrons than protons) and cations are positively charged (meaning they have more protons than electrons).

It is important to know the difference between anions and cations. It is a fundamental concept to understanding molecules, compounds, and bonding. An anion is an atom or molecule (ions) with a negative charge due to gaining electrons. A cation is an atom or molecule (ions) with a negative charge due to losing electrons.

This will also be important when we get to the acid base section! Although, its not too hard to memorize with anion as negative and cation as positive (i just remember that CAT(ion) are cute so they're positive).

Anions are just atoms that gain electrons or become more negative to be in a more stable state. cations are similar except for they lose electrons or become more positive to reach a more stable state.

Another way to know which atom is an anion or cation is that since anions are negatively charged, they are on the right side of the periodic table, and because cations are positively charged, they are on the left side of the periodic table.

The way I remember cations and anions is that cations have a "t" which closely resembles a "+" sign. So elements with the "+" are cations which means an e- was removed. And basically once you know what a cation is, one can deduce that an anion is the opposite.

Cations are positively charged and anions are negatively charged. I remember this personally because to me anion sounds like onion and I have had a "negative" experience with onions. Weird way to remember, but it works for me!

I would for sure remember the difference between cations and anions. Cations are positively charged molecules/atoms and anions are negatively charged atoms/molecules. As well as most cations are lewis acids because they are likely to accept electrons and anions are likely lewis bases.

I think they're pretty important and easy to remember. A(n)ion has an "n" for negative and ca(t)ion the "t" looks like a plus sign. Not sure which lecture the professor talks about but easy enough to just look up a video online for extra help. Hope this helps!

Just like everyone was saying, cations have a positive charge and anions have a negative charge. But if you want to rewatch the professor's lecture where he explained it, it would be lecture #11!
