Hybrid structures

It has been mentioned in resonance structures there is hybrid structures for example N02 where the Os are in a sense both double bonded but are like 1.5 bonds and they have 5 valence electrons. I was wondering if this is its true form in nature or if it is never seen in nature but rather have either single or double bonds that shift like regular resonance structures?

I think it is true in nature because aren't resonance structures more stable than having single and double bonds. Since things aren't constantly exploding or having dramatic chemical reactions, I would assume it is because of that.

It is, that's one of the main limitations of Lewis Structures. Lewis Structures make it look like there is one double bond and one single bond in NO2, but in actuality, both bonds are the same length and double bond character is spread between both bonds. The bond length and strength would be in between a single and a double bond.
