Hydrogen Bonding
Will there ever be exceptions to the rule that H-bonding only occurs between H and N, O, or F?

Re: Hydrogen Bonding
From what I understand there are no exceptions. Hydrogen bonding can occur when ONLY N, O, and F are present. If they are not present, there can not be hydrogen bonding

Re: Hydrogen Bonding
Not that we'll need to look at I don't think. I looked it up, and the only reason that hydrogen bonding would happen without a N, O, or F molecule is: "C-H bonds only participate in hydrogen bonding when the carbon atom is bound to electronegative substituents as is the case in chloroform, CHCl3".

Re: Hydrogen Bonding
Hi! I looked it up only just to double check and there are no exceptions! One of them has to be present for hydrogen bonding to occur!!

Re: Hydrogen Bonding
I believe for what we have learned so far, that hydrogen bonding should only occur between N, O, and F atoms because of their electronegativity.

Re: Hydrogen Bonding
I think by definition hydrogen bonds only occur with N, O, and F so there shouldn't be any exceptions!

Re: Hydrogen Bonding
Hi! I don't believe there are any other exceptions to hydrogen bonding to only N, O and F.
