Ion-Dipole vs Hydrogen Bonds
Why are hydrogen bonds stronger than ion dipole bonds if the ion dipole bonds involve a full charge.
Re: Ion-Dipole vs Hydrogen Bonds
I think it depends on the charge of the ion and dipole moment of the molecule involved in the ion-dipole interaction. So if an ion is highly charged and the net dipole moment of the molecule is also pretty significant, an ion-dipole might possibly be stronger than a hydrogen bond (and vice versa). I think the values listed by Dr. Lavelle were approximations of the strengths of each intermolecular force, but please correct me if I'm wrong!

Re: Ion-Dipole vs Hydrogen Bonds
I think it has to do with the fact that hydrogen bonds only have to do with molecules that are polar and the bonds are loacted between a pair of other atoms having a high affinity fro electrons. I wouldn't questions Dr. Lavelle, just memorize what he tells you is true with regards to strength.
