Calculating grade
Hi! Does anyone know how we can see our overall grade for the class on Gradescope because I can only see my grades for each assignment. Also, if not, can any math geniuses tell me how we would calculate our grade.

Re: Calculating grade
the total is out of 500, so add up your midterm 1 and 2 raw scores, chem community points, and homework points so that you can see how many you have as of right now. You can also see what you need on the final to earn the grade that you want!

Re: Calculating grade
Breakdown of the grade:
Sapling - 50 pts
Chemistry Community - 50 pts
Midterm 1 - 110 pts
Midterm 2 - 110 pts
Final - 180 pts
Total 500 pts
You can calculate your grade (assume what you will get from sapling & chem community) and estimate you final grade. You can also use this to figure out your target score for the final if you have a preferred grade.

Re: Calculating grade
If we complete the sapling assignments by the due dates are we guaranteed the full 50 points for that portion of our grades?

Re: Calculating grade
Yeah, unfortunately I haven't been able to find anywhere that our grade is calculated for us which is weird, but basically like everyone else said you just add all your points up and put it out of the totals and that'll give it to you

Re: Calculating grade
Just add up the current points you have out of the current total to see the grade that you have now. Also, since we know the class is out of 500 points, you can calculate what you will need on the final to get whatever your target grade might be.

If you got full points for all Sapling work and turned it all in on time then yes, you should get all 50 points for that.

Yeah he never mentioned anything about a curve, nor has my TA, so I wouldn't count on it.

yeah I think so. when you finished the assignment sapling would also give a percentage completion score
Re: Calculating grade
If we missed a question on sapling is that factored into the grade? As in, do we lose points off our grade?

Re: Calculating grade
I usually add up all the points we have completed thus far and divide by all possible point thus far.

If you did not answer the question on sapling then there are points taken off of the final homework grade, but as long as you get the correct answer before the due date it doesn't matter how many tries it takes, you will still receive full credit!

The total is out of 500 and the breakdown is on the syllabus! As of right now I would use a straight scale to calculate your grade and I heard he adjusts it at the end of the quarter based on the class average.

Re: Calculating grade
Yeah, if you get some questions wrong on Sapling your grade for the homework will be lower. More specifically, you'll get 19/20 points if you couldn't answer one question, for example. You'll still get partial credit if you get part of a question right, though.

this is helpful.

yes the percentage of completion is the percent of points you get for that homework grade

Yes we are! As long as you got 100% on the assignment and turned it in on time, you should get full marks. If you want to check, the grades for our sapling assignments are automatically updated on ccle.

Re: Calculating grade
I can't see my overall grade either. You can individually add up the assignments and divide it out of the 500 point total to get your grade. Or you can find a website that'll do it for you, and there are a lot of them out there.
Here's a straightforward one: https://www.calculator.net/grade-calculator.html
