Potential?

What is it? I know we get the values in a table but what exactly is it a measure of?

Cell potential is the measure of the electric current (the flow of electrons) between two half cells of a battery. This flow of electrons can be used to do electrical work. The greater the electric current, the greater the cell potential, and the more electrical work can be done.
