Comfort Movies

Postby Sara_Lim_2C » Sun Jan 10, 2021 6:34 pm

I was watching a Hunger Games movie marathon on TV and realized that although the subject matter is rather serious, I do enjoy watching those films. That got me thinking about comfort movies and those kinds that you can rewatch a million times and never get tired of. For me, those are the Hunger Games and the Princess Diaries (both 1 and 2).

What are some of your go-to movies, whether you like to watch them to relax, have a laugh, or just have some background noise?

I've always been a big star wars guy, so any of the original three help me unwind. But I don't usually like having movies or tv shows play in the background while I work or study; I feel like I end up getting easily distracted.

I know it’s a kid’s movies and I haven’t watched it in a while but I’ll probably never turn down watching Rio lol. Although, I usually listen to music if I just want background noise as I work.

My go-to movie is always Shrek 2 for almost no reason at all. And then my comfort Netflix show is either Criminal Minds or Glee!

I'm not sure what specific happy memories I associate with Friends, the tv show, but if I am ever feeling anxious and in need of a quiet night, I turn on Friends. I think the uncertainty of the past year has made me feel really disoriented so it comforts me whenever I revisit any movie or tv show I know the ending to.

This is such a cute question. I love Marvel so much, so my number one comfort movie was Captain America: Civil War. I would rewatch that movie at least once a week, I just loved it so much. In college, I have honestly not been watching movies as often anymore, but I would still consider that movie my comfort movie. Along with that, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame are some of my tops as well (:

I love love the Princess Diaries too, so nostalgic to my childhood! The second movie will forever have a place in my heart lol. But I love any of the stereotypical "chick flicks," especially Legally Blonde, they're just so relaxing to watch for me and a great way to unwind with my friends.

I like to watch "coming of age" movies for comfort--so usually like, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Edge of Seventeen, Lady Bird, etc. I don't really know why, but films like this align my chakra lol. Especially on a cloudy day.

My comfort movies include any Shrek movie (which is ahead of its time) and anything with either Will Ferrell (Megamind/Step Brothers) in it or Adam Sandler for a funny movie. For TV shows I'm currently binging on New Girl.

If I really want to get my mind off of work and studying, I tend to lean more towards suspenseful/thriller type movies--that way I get caught up in the movie and forget about all my troubles :)

Same here! My favorite movie and book is The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I swear I've watched it 20 times. Lady Bird is also amazing, wow you have great taste! :)) My favorite movie genre (if it's even considered a genre) is coming of age films. Booksmart, Little Women, etc. I also like to watch John Mulaney and Bo Burnham's Netflix specials when I'm stressed or sad.

I love Disney's Fantasia 2000! My parents never really bought movies or took me to see them as a kid (we're just not a big movie family), so I would only have the same 3-5 movies to watch on repeat––this being one of them. Even though I've seen much better films since, this one has a special place in my heart :)

I've watched Dead Poet's Society at least once a year since I started watching it and I honestly can't think of a way that I would get sick of such a classic movie. It is absolutely brilliant and for sure findable on sketchy movie pirating websites online.

One science movie that I absolutely love is GATTACA. I had to watch it in AP Bio my junior year of high school, but it was one of my greatest takeaways from that class. To this day, it's one of my all time favorite movies and the soundtrack is just top tier. In terms of an actual comfort movie, I adore Inside Out. It's just so wholesome and pure, and it has a really great message. I'll never not cry watching that one :')

I've always loved the Harry Potter series so the HP movies are always a good comfort movie for me (even though they definitely don't do the books justice...lol). I love watching them when I want to relax—especially after a tough school week!

I also love both of the Princess Diaries movies too! I can watch the Harry Potter movies over and over and I love 90s/2000s Disney Channel movies. My comfort shows are definitely Parks and Rec, New Girl, and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Not gonna lie... Legally Blonde is probably my go-to movie. Like that movie hypes me up and it just motivates me because Elle Woods went to Harvard and studied law and kicked [censored] and it's like, if she can do it, then I can make it through college too. And when I heard that they filmed a shot from the movie at UCLA as well, it made it even better, like HA what a funny coincidence that I'm here and thats like my favorite movie.

The Studio Ghibli movies are all so comforting to watch! I especially enjoy Kiki's Delivery Service and Spirited Away. If you want to cry though, watch Grave of the Fireflies.

This is such a cute question, but my all time favorite comfort movie is Thor: Ragnarok, I could watch it forever and never ever get sick of it, it's so funny and the CGI is so visually appealing, it's my favorite movie ever.

My comfort movies will always be the Harry Potter movies. I have always loved the Harry Potter series. My siblings and I would watch the movies together every time my sister came home from college. That is one of the ways we bonded when we were younger and it continues to bring us closer to this day.

Some of my comfort movies are any Incredibles movie, also Turbo is a really silly comfort movie that is pretty good to have as background noise.

My favorite comfort movies are the Star Wars movies. Every single intro when I hear the amazing orchestra playing right after seeing the words "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away..." gives me one of my favorite feelings. It reminds me of my dad and I watching the movies together. Just awesome.

My comfort movie would probably be either She’s All That, the entire Harry Potter Series, or Someone Great. I know these are different in many ways but they all feel comforting when I am stressed or upset.

I really enjoy the lord of the rings movies, in particular if you are not really paying attention. They are great in the background of homework or other tasks.

My comfort movie is definitely Anastasia because the music is super catchy and Harry Potter movies mainly 1-4 because the later ones are the more serious ones.

Some of my Comfort movies are the Star Wars Original trilogy along with Episode 3. In addition, I really like watching the Iron Man Trilogy and the Hobbit movies. For music in the background, try to pick something that you like and easily gets stuck in your mind. It helps for memory retention and recall especially when using it to study and take exams.

My comfort movie is Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. As a child, I loved watching this movie, and it's a miracle it isn't broken from the number of times I've watched this movie. It's a kid's movie, and it has an amazing soundtrack to listen to.

How To Be Single!! Dakota Johnson is such a great actress imo and this movie really shows how everyone's successes and timings are different! Really good to wind down after a stressful event (class).
