Re: ionization percentage
the percent of a compound that has dissociated (ionized). this is 100% for strong acids/bases, but for weak acids/bases you calculate it [H+]/[HA] * 100%
Re: ionization percentage
To add on, for strong acids/bases, they ionize or dissociate completely, and therefore their percent ionization is 100%. For weak acids and bases (which don't ionize completely), you take the equilibrium [OH-] (for bases) or the [H3O+] (for acids) and divide it by the initial concentration of the weak acid or base, and then multiply by 100%

Re: ionization percentage
Ionization percentage is the amount of acid or base that has turned into its conjugate acid or base. The formula for ionization percentage for acids is [A-]/[HA] * 100% and for bases it's [HB+]/[B] * 100%. The value of HA and B are the initial concentrations of the acid and base before equilibrium has been reached. The values of A- and HB+ are the equilibrium concentrations of the conjugate base and conjugate acid.

Re: ionization percentage
It's particularly relevant to weak acids/bases where, unlike for strong acids/bases, the dissociation % is not 100%. Dissociation/ionization percentage describes the extent to which an acid forms its conjugate base and H3O+ and a base forms its conjugate acid and OH-.
We can calculate it by:
[OH- or H3O+]/[Base or Acid initially]*100.
We can calculate it by:
[OH- or H3O+]/[Base or Acid initially]*100.

Re: ionization percentage
Percent ionization simply tells you how much an acid or base dissociates to form H3O+ or OH-. To calculate percent ionization: [H3O+ / OH-] / [HA / B] *100%. The reason why we want to know percent ionization is because not all acids or bases completely dissociate and a percent ionization gives us an idea of how strong an acid or base is.

Re: ionization percentage
The ionization percentage tells us the percent of the compound that has ionized. Strong acids/bases completely ionize to make it 100%. Weak acids/bases can be calculated by comparing initial concentrations to equilibrium molar concentrations.

Re: ionization percentage
It is [H+]/[HA], so its the amount of the hydrogen that is on the products side after you do the ice table over your total concentration of the original acid.

Re: ionization percentage
Just to add on, since the percent ionization is calculated through [H3O+] or [OH-]/ the acid or base, the percent ionization gives us valuable information that tells us whether or not a base or acid is strong (strong acids or bases are going to dissociates 100%, which makes sense since that will influence the pH more in the solution). This is due to the fact that it tells us how much it dissociates. We can use this information to compare acids/bases to each other and help us in experiments or more. Hope this helps!

Re: ionization percentage
Ionization percentage relates to how much of an acid or base is ionized. it is same as deprotonation percentage. You are essentially measuring the amount of H3O+ produced or OH-, depending if you are using acids or bases.
