CycloHeptane Line structures

Postby JasmineChavez 1E » Sun Mar 06, 2016 5:47 pm

Hello, taking a chance here and requesting that there are no cycloheptane compounds on the final exam that we have to draw the line structure for. I know it has seven carbons but on the quiz we had one and i spent more time trying to figure out how to draw the shape out with seven carbons than I should have and its just really difficult in my opinion to draw a heptagon

Hi Jasmine, I just want to say that your line structures do not have to be perfectly shaped (i.e. you don't need to make all your lines or angles even) so if that's what is bothering you about drawing cycloheptane, rest assured that as long as there are seven connected carbons, you should be fine. As a student that took 14C/D, I have drawn very many deformed and uneven hexagons and other weird shapes without penalty. No guarantees that it will or will not appear on the exam though.
