I also have a question about the quizzes. I heard that we couldn't use graphing calculators, so does anyone have any suggestions as to which calculator is best to use? Thanks!

Hi, for the quizzes I believe we can only use a scientific, non-graphing calculator and they will be 40 minutes and completed in discussion if that answers your question. But, I do not know whether the quiz will be multiple choice or short answer.

@Zara, honestly any non-graphicg calculator will be good to use, I personally use a the texas instruments TI-30XS and I love it, it was like 20 bucks but i know some simple scientific calculators that go for 10 bucks.

Professor Lavelle said that the first quiz will only be covering through 10/5 (Wednesday's) lecture. I'm just looking for confirmation that this means the quiz will only include up through orbitals, but not as in depth as we discussed them 10/7 (Friday's) lecture. Correct?

For the quizzes (and the tests too, I guess), do we get a formula sheet or data booklet of some kind? If so, would it be possible to familiarize ourselves with it before the quiz and which equations (if any) are included and which do we have to memorize?

Absolutely! I have said this many times in class. Quiz 1 covers the Fundamentals section, Chem Refreshers, etc.
See example quizzes in your Workbook which are excellent review (also announced in class many times ...).

To get the credit complete quiz 1, quiz 2, and quiz 3 for only those three quizzes that do not have answers, and hand in your workbook to your TA on the day you take the quiz.

Or you could just read the instructions in the front of your workbook ...

The instructions didn't say anything about having to complete the Self Test for the credit so I just wanted to be clear on that. Thanks

Are quizzes the form similar as self tests or are they in MCQs? And if they are FRQs, are detailed steps required, or only an answer should be OK?

The quizzes will be similar to the self tests. I would show some work leading to how you got to your answer in order to gain partial credit. If you just write the answer down, your TA can't give you any partial credit.

I believe your "potential quiz saving points" depends on the completion/problems you get right. So if you want a favorable grade on them, I suggest you do all problems on the quizzes (the ones with no answers to them of course).
