Hi!
The oxidation state is calculated by looking at the charges of all the ligands inside of the brackets. For example, if the coordination complex is neutral (no charge written outside of the brackets) you can calculate what positive charge the transition metal has by determining the collective negative charge of all the ligands.
Take: [Pt(en)2]CO3
you know that the coordination complex is 2+ since CO3 is 2-
you know that (en)'s charge is neutral, therefore platinum must be +2, or Platinum (II).
