hey guys!
I've been studying for quiz 3 and found that coordination compounds are tripping me up a little.
I was wondering if this weekend anyone would like to meet up and hopefully break them down for me a little simpler?
Or if anyone has any good videos explaining them, that would be extremely helpful.
thanks!

Help with Coordination Compounds?
How do you exactly find out if the complex has an overall negative or positive charge?

Adiba, I'm not 100% sure if this is correct but with the problems in the book, it seems that you have to find the individual charge of each ligand and of the central metal and add them up?

You can usually tell by the name. A negative coordination compound will have the suffix "-ate" in the name; positive ones will not. You can also add up all the charges of the central transition metal and the ligands that are attached.
Hope this helps.
Re: Help with Coordination Compounds?
The name helps but you need to know the charge of each element and which is neutral to find the overall charge. Memorize the chart in the course reader because it shows what is negative and what is neutral.
