bond order question

is calculating the bond order basically calculating how many bonds are between two atoms?

What does it mean if something has a bond order of 2.5? Is it a shorter double bond?

The bond order is 2.5 and not enough for triple bond. Thus the molecule will have a double bond and is a table molecule.
* Bond order is a special relationship for Bond length (thus strength)
