Hybridized Orbitals with d

Postby 104822659 » Sat Dec 03, 2016 1:29 pm

Is there a difference between dsp^3 and sp^3d?
If the electron arrangement was a pentagonal bipyramidal, what would the hybridization be?

There isn't a difference between sp^3d and dsp^3. I think it's usually written dsp^3 because d orbitals are lower in energy. It's like when writing the electron configurations: 3d10 4s2 etc.
