Intensive versus Extensive Properties
What is the difference between an intensive and an extensive property and why is standard reduction potential an intensive property?

An extensive property is a property that changes when the size of the sample changes. Examples are mass, volume, length, and total charge. However, an intensive property doesn't change when you take away some of the sample. Examples are temperature, color, hardness, melting point, boiling point, pressure, molecular weight, and density. Eocell is an intensive property because the value does not change depending on how many times the reaction occurs. The Eocell is a measure of the potential difference between the 2 reactions, and the potential difference is the same when you increase both sides. However, when you change the concentration of on of the sides, the potential difference also changes because there is now more on one side than the other.
