homework 14.35

Postby Kelsey Jug 1J » Sun Feb 12, 2017 11:22 am

Can anyone confirm that the solutions manual for 14.35 part b) is incorrect? The solutions wrote one of the half reactions as In^3+ (aq) + 2 e- ----> In^2+ (aq). The coefficient of the electron is obviously wrong as +3 - 2 does not equal +2. From my calculations considering n = 1, I obtained K = 1.07 x 10^2. Did anyone else obtain this?

The solutions manual is incorrect. On the course website there is a link that says solution manual errors and 14.35 B is on there. And yes I got the same answer as you and it is the same as the one on the corrections link.

Yes, it is a typo. They use the half reaction potential value for in the Appendix 2 for , -0.49V. Remember your significant figures.
