exergonic/exothermic

Postby Julianne Seog 3K » Tue Mar 07, 2017 4:20 pm

What is the difference between exergonic and exothermic reactions? Is the same concept but just a different name because it describes a different type of reaction?

An exergonic reaction is a reaction where energy is released and the standard change in free energy of the reaction is negative.
An endergonic reaction is a reaction where energy is absorbed and the standard change in free energy of the reaction is positive.

I believe exergonic reactions deals with the loss in free energy while exothermic relates to the loss in heat.
