How are we able to determine which one is the cathode and which one is the anode when we are just given the reduction values?

The Cathode is always going to have the higher reduction half reaction value to make the total cell potential as high as possible because we calculate that through the equation Cathode potential - Anode Potential

In addition, the more positive the value is for the standard reduction potential, the more likely the substance is going to be reduced.

when you say higher reduction half reaction do you mean more positive?
