Chair conformation

For a cyclohexane with an ethyl substituent, does it matter where you put the substituent to make it the most stable? Should it go on the tip? Or can you put it anywhere?

You can put it anywhere on ring as long as it is in the equatorial position.

Does it also not matter where we start counting the carbons? My answers are almost always slightly different than the book.

Equatorial is more stable than axial conformation so I would say put it at an equatorial position
