Hey guys!

Here are my answers for Self Test 1 -- What do you get?

1a. 24.0 g NaOH
1b. 81.3 mL

2a. 2AL + 6HCL --> 2AlCl3 + 3H2
2b. 9.51g AlCl3

3a. Dx >= 3.2 E -32
3b. 1.3 E -31 m

4. 3.61 E -19 J

5. CH4O

6. 2.98 J

7. 2CH3OH + 3O2 --> 2CO2 + 4H20

8. 1.86 E -6 m

9. C5H12O5

10. (drew a sine wave graph)
Amplitude = height of the waves = the intensity of the wave and/or the number of photons
Frequency = peak to peak distance = how many cycles pass in 1 second
Wavelength = distance between origin and 1 full cycle = the length of the wave's oscillations .

Could you explain how you set up 1B? I think I'm overthinking the entire thing. Thanks!

You just multiply 250mL by .650 M and divide that by 2.00M. The M's will cancel out and leave you with about 81.3mL

Ben's answer for number 5 is correct. Dr. Lavelle used C3HO4 as an example in the post when he divided the respective number of moles by the lowest value of moles.

Yes, your work is correct up to your mol ratio at the end. I do not know where .2 C and .2 O come from. Your ratio should be C: 1 H: 4 O:1 giving you the final answer of CH4O.

Why is it that the produced grams for CO2 only apply to carbon? and respectively the same for H2O and Hydrogen?
