Naming Ligands
I looked up examples of naming ligands and one website named CN- as cyanido and F- as fluorido. What is the difference between cyano and cyanido or fluroro and fluorido? Where does the ending -ido come from?

Re: Naming Ligands
They're exactly the same compounds, just the ones ending in -ido are from the new IUPAC naming.

they are the same thing, but I believe for the purposes of this class we stick to the old names.

Re: Naming Ligands
A TA mentioned just to stick to the old names (bromo, iodo, etc.) when naming the anionic ligands. For the purpose of this class, it's not necessary to adapt to the new names.
Re: Naming Ligands
I would say stick to memorizing the ligands given in the course reader, do not go looking for other websites because then you
will get confused and I know lavelle will like the ligands that he gave to us not any other ones
