Can someone please explain what an eV is? It is much smaller than a Joule but can someone please explain what it signifies?

An eV is an electron volt, which is another unit of energy. 1 eV = 1.60218x10^-19 J.

Hi Esin,

An electron volt, symbolized as eV, is a unit of energy. It is equal to approximately 1.6x10^-19 joules (J). One eV is equal to the amount of energy one electron aquires by accelerating, from a resting state, through a potential difference of one volt.
