Periodic Trends

When a question asks, "determine the highest SECOND ionization energy" how do you determine that? Its different from determining which ionization energy is greater.

The second ionization energy is the energy required to take the next electron after an electron is already taken from an atom. They have numerical values, but I don't think those can be determined with anything we've learned. To determine whether it is higher than lower or something, treat it like you would normally with first ionization energies with periodic trends.

yes, first ionization energy refers to the energy required to remove one electron, and the second ionization energy refers to energy required to remove another electron. Additionally, the second ionization energy will always be greater than the first ionization energy, because the first electron is being removed from a neutral atom while the second is being removed from a positively charged atom.
