Are there any exceptions to carbon being in the center of a structure?

The central atom will always be the one with the lowest electronegativity. When you have carbon compounds, carbon is typically the central atom.

Carbon will be the central atom if it is the atom that has the lowest Ionization energy/electronegativity.
