Will we get marked off if our shapes our different? say the compound is NCl3, would we get marked off if we had it in the shape of _l_ instead of a mercedes logo type shape?

No I remember in class that he said that as long as you got the electron distribution right and the relative shape, it would be fine. He also said that either _I_ or the Mercedes logo shape would be fine specifically for trigonal planar structures.

As long as you have the correct electron distribution and number of electrons, the shape shouldn't matter that much to Dr. Lavelle.

I was wondering what the difference between molecular structure and the molecular shape.

I think the molecular structure has to do with the atoms that make up the molecule and how the bonds and lone pairs of electrons will interact. The shape would be influenced by the structure and be based on the attractions and repulsion caused by the electrons.
