Intensive vs extensive property

What is the difference between extensive and intensive properties? In the notes, it states that heat capacity is an extensive property while specific heat capacity is an intensive property.

An extensive property depends on the mass while intensive does not.

Yeah David is right. Extensive properties depend on mass so like heat capacity is the amount of energy needed to change the temperature of some substance by 1 degree C which varies with the amount of the substance. Specific heat capacity is an intensive property. It is the energy needed to change the temperature of ONE GRAM of the substance by 1 degree C. The fact that the specific heat capacity is changing the temperature of one gram of the substance makes it an intensive property since it no longer depends on the mass of the substance since it always is to one gram of the substance. So the units of heat capacity are kJ/degree Celcius and the units of specific heat capacity are kJ/(gram*degree Celcius)
