Exothermic
how come when a system's temperature increases, it mean that it is exothermic? wouldn't be endothermic since its temperature went up meaning it absorbed heat?

Re: Exothermic
When a reaction feels cold then it is endothermic since it is taking in heat for the reaction. When a reaction is exothermic then it feels hot because heat is being released from the reaction.

Re: Exothermic
An exothermic reaction releases energy, which means that heat is also being released, causing a rise of temperature.

Re: Exothermic
If a system's temperature increases, that means that heat is being released from the reaction to increase the temperature of its surroundings. Don't think of the system itself as the reaction, but rather as the surroundings of that reaction whose change in temperature determines whether the reaction is endothermic or exothermic.

Re: Exothermic
The release of heat in an endothermic reaction causes the temperature of the surroundings to increase, whereas an endothermic reaction absorbs heat, thus decreasing the temperature

Re: Exothermic
for an exo reaction delta H is always negative implying the release of heat (thus the reaction is warmer)

Re: Exothermic
As others have said, the reaction releases energy causing the surrounding area absorb the energy and feel warmer .

This video gives a good, simple explanation of endothermic and exothermic reactions.
