Entropy vs. Degeneracy
In my notes, the definitions for entropy and degeneracy seem similar, so what is the difference between the two?

Re: Entropy vs. Degeneracy
Degeneracy is the number of ways of achieving a given energy state, while entropy is the probability that the system will be in a particular state.

Re: Entropy vs. Degeneracy
Degeneracy and entropy are also directly related, which means that the higher the entropy, the higher the degeneracy.

Re: Entropy vs. Degeneracy
Degeneracy is the amount of states a particles can exist in. Entropy is a measure of disorder in a system. While they both may seem similar, degeneracy is describing the actual number of states and entropy is measured in J/K

Entropy is the probability that the system will be in 1 particular state, while degeneracy is the number of ways you can achieve that energy state.
