Energy Density
How does energy density affect the efficiency of a fuel and for example, how far a car can drive?

Re: Energy Density
Well I'm assuming that with a greater energy density you can store more energy in a smaller unit of space or concentrate the energy more to a smaller volume based on how large the energy density is. So the greater the density the further a car could drive because it has more energy in the same amount of space?

Re: Energy Density
A higher energy density will lead to a higher total amount of energy for a given volume, which will lead to a higher amount of energy overall. I.E. the car will drive further with a higher energy density given a set volume of the gas tank.

Re: Energy Density
Efficiency of a fuel is related to how much energy is packed into a set amount of the fuel, so fuel that contains more energy per unit volume will be able to perform more work. In the example of the car, given more energy per unit volume, a car will be able to travel further using the additional energy.

Re: Energy Density
A higher energy density means that, per mole, the substance releases a large amount of energy relative to another substance with lower energy density.

Re: Energy Density
I believe that the higher the density, the greater the capacity.
hope this helps!

Re: Energy Density
Because if energy density is high, there is more energy in the tightly packed, small mass (in this case, gasoline) available for the car. Although, I could have worded this wrong.
