Universe being isolated

Postby mayapartha_1D » Sun Jan 28, 2018 10:44 pm

Can anyone explain why exactly the universe is an isolated system? How is it similar to a calorimeter?

The universe would be described as an isolated system because neither matter nor energy are created or destroyed (gained or lost).

the idea of the universe is an assumption, it is not proven. Hypothetically speaking, it is similar to a calorimeter because it wouldn't allow for mass and energy to be exchanged with it's surroundings.

Although Lavelle said in class that we don't REALLY know haha, it is because matter is neither created nor destroyed.
